A Little Piece of Key West History

Sands Beach Club was developed by David Wolkowsky (who also developed The Pier House). A casual atmosphere where you could spend the day on the beach, enjoying delicious seafood/salad bar for reasonable prices. Lots of local and top-name music entertainment (i.e.; Allman Brothers). Sands Beach was sold to Austin Laber, a developer from New York, in the early 80s. Under protest by a contingency of locals who did not want their public access to this beach to become a private resort property.

In 1995 Mr. Meisel and Mr. Cohen acquired this wonderful property and turned it into The Reach Resort-part of the Waldorf Astoria Collection. Becoming the “sister resort” to the Casa Marina, this is now a place tourists can visit and enjoy a piece of wonderful Key West.
