How to Travel Mindfully to Key West

Be Respectful of Local Regulations

During these times it's especially important to be respectful of local regulations and policies. When traveling to remote destinations like Key West, keep in mind that locals may be sensitive to behavior from travelers. Keep your distance from others as best as possible, be extra respectful to the staff at local establishments, and find ways to explore with minimal contact with others.

Keep Your Distance Whenever Possible

Be mindful to keep your distance in public with others and refrain from congregating in large groups. The beauty of a place like Key West is that you're here to get away from the hustle of daily life anyways! Enjoy beach days and explore state parks.

Bring Along Supplies and Groceries

While we know how great it is to enjoy every meal out in Key West, it's also nice to wake up with all the supplies you need to cook meals in your own kitchen. Before your trip, make a list of all the items that you'll need while you're here. We suggest stopping for all your groceries and supplies prior to driving down to The Florida Keys. Keep in mind these high-demand items are in shortage in local stores:

  • certain food items
  • paper products (paper towels, toilet paper, tissue)
  • cleaning and disinfecting products (hand sanitizer, surface cleaners, wipes)
  • medications
  • protective wear (mask, gloves)
  • beach gear (sunscreen, bug repellent)

Clean Up After Yourself

This one should go without mentioning, but since the start of the COVID-19 Pandemic, we have become increasingly mindful of single-use trash and appropriate disposal of sanitary items. If you are wearing face coverings or other protective gear, be sure to dispose of these items properly and always leave parks, beaches, and nature preserve better than you found them.
