Most people think of beaches when they hear the name Key West, and we don't blame them - our beaches are phenomenal. If you are a nature lover, then you also need to check out the state parks that call the Florida Keys home. 

State Parks are not scarce in the Keys - in just 125 miles, you will find 10 state parks! They are full of history, wildlife, and fun activities for the entire family to enjoy. Here are the highlights from some of our favorite state parks in the area.

Fort Zachary Taylor State Park

Fort Zachary Taylor State Park is full of history and beautiful scenery. Fort Zach served as the Navy Headquarters during the Civil War. Beginning in the mid 1800’s - shortly after Florida became a state - construction began. There are 54 acres of land to explore - full of native wildlife, wildflowers, Civil War Cannons and more!

This location is perfect for weddings, private parties or just a relaxing picnic with friends and family. There are tours given daily at 11 a.m. if you’re interested as well.

John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park

John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park was established in 1935. This park is 70 sq. miles of coral reefs, seagrass, and mangrove swamps. There is also a 30,000-gallon aquarium, nature trails, and picnic pavilions. Visitors can enjoy all sorts of activities such as snorkeling, kayaking, scuba tours, etc.

Bahia Honda State Park offers a tropical location and the list of things to do here are endless. Just to give you an idea of what is available, here is a little list:
