Key West is a small island, made up of 5 distinct Key West neighborhoods that provide both residential and business opportunities. Check out each neighborhood and decide where you would like to visit!
Truman Annex is both a neighborhood and military installation and located west of Whitehead Street in old town. This location gets its name from the Harry Truman Little White House, the home of the winter White House for President Harry Truman. A portion of the Truman Annex has since been developed into a gated residential community of luxury homes, townhouses and condominiums designed to capture the historic essence, all situated in a lush garden setting.
Old Town – The Historic District of Key West aka “Old Town”
Old Town consists of the western half of the island is roughly one half of the island. It is the where the central business district and majority of tourist attractions are located. Old Town is bounded by Emma, Whitehead, White, and South Streets, Mallory Square, and the Atlantic Ocean.
Stately homes right out of the history books along with “shotgun” houses and “conch style” homes keep your attention while you roam through one of the prettiest towns in the United States. Walk to restaurants, clubs, cafes, historic attractions and the waterfront.
The Meadows is a residential neighborhood within the City of Key West. It is bound by White and Angela Streets, Eisenhower Drive and Truman Avenue. Beautiful old homes with varied architectural features. Boasting brightly painted shutters and lush tropical landscape, make this neighborhood a charming place to live. Neighbors still “talk” over the fence and share bits of local news and opinions. Take a gracious step back in time in this tranquil neighbor.
Casa Marina and Mid-town
The Casa Marina district of Key West was built around what is now the Casa Marina Resort. The hotel was built by Henry Flagler, of the famous Flagler Railroad. Large spacious homes of varying styles are situated just blocks from the Atlantic Ocean. These homes, some with privacy fences, are just blocks away from Historic Old Town Key West.
“New Town” Key West on the eastern side of the island offers three shopping centers, grocery stores, and shopping. All of this is conveniently located to help make your stay more enjoyable. Most of the homes were originally constructed in the 1950’s and 1960’s. What’s old is now new. Many homes still feature “terrazzo” floors, which is exposing marble chips and other fine aggregates on the surface of finished concrete and large back yards. You’ll find plenty of room – by Key West standards – to roam in this area of town.
Key West Golf Club Development
The Key West Golf Club development offers 2 to 4 bedroom homes situated in a lush tropical setting. This house development is surrounded by an 18 hole Rees Davis golf course, which is open to the public. The developer of this community captured the classic “Conch Style” architecture and offers amenities for the most discerning tastes. Amenities include two swimming pools, one a large lagoon style pool complete with a waterfall. There is a clubhouse, exercise room and 24 hour security. This community boasts over 300 homes inside this gated community. This private community is called “The Sanctuary” and consists of larger single family homes, many of which have private pools and spas and parking along with scenic views of the golf course.
