COLD'S MILK FARM is a spacious historic home, built in the mid-19th century, by Paul Cold, and was once part of Key Wests largest working dairy farm. The property is on the edge of what we call The Meadows in historic Old Town Key West (you guess how the Meadows got its name) centrally located, not too close to the hub-bub of Duval Street and not too far away from the beaches.
This Key West landmark has undergone a thoughtful restoration, including the hard wood floors with original stenciling, Dade county pine walls and original hand blown window glass. The smallest detail has not been overlooked from the restoration of the weather vane to the pressed tin panel with a pineapple motif welcoming you at the entry. Keeping intact the feel and charm of a grand if not quirky southern lady this home won the highest Historic Preservation Award in 2007. Carefully incorporated into the home you will find updated amenities. This property is perfectly suited for a large family or a group of friends, with lots of room to roam or individuals with an appreciation of history.
Walking through the gate and up the stairs to the covered front porch, complete with rocking chairs, your will enter the first floor and be greeted by the restored staircase which artfully divides the home; on the right side is a restful sitting room with soothing morning light leading to you wander through a lovely archway to the dinning room. Right behind the dining room is the Country Kitchen with gas range, slate counter tops, hand crafted custom cabinets. Attention to detail is evident with the look of the retro appliances lending you to think you have stepped into a turn of the century kitchen. Just off the kitchen stroll into the dining Gazebo, a perfect setting for breakfast or cocktails. Enjoy the enchanting views of a lush tropical garden graced by an ancient Sapodilla tree and bubbling fountain. To the left of the staircase is a room for those who just cant leave the real world behind. A comfy media room with large flat screen TV and DVD, just behind this room is the foyer. Through the foyer is a guest bedroom with two full size beds and bath en suite with French doors that open out to the Grotto style heated swimming pool surrounded by tropical garden. Also found on the first floor is a half bath.
On the second floor is a spacious guest bedroom with bath en suite, overlooking White Street for a scenic pedestrian view and has a comfortable queen size bed. The master bedroom suite takes up the entire right side of the second floor and offers a spacious sitting room with desk, fire place and two day beds as well as a king size bed to bring sweet dreams at the end of your day. The master bath is roomy with his and hers vanity sinks, showers and closets as well as a romantic claw foot bath tub.
Colds Milk Farm (or The Cow House, thats what we locals call it) is a fabulous find for your Key West getaway, with amenities that include; WiFi, swimming pool (heat with fee), central Air-conditioning, off street parking, washer/dryer, BBQ grill, accommodations for twelve and beautiful tropical garden, Oh and the life size cow - for real - that awaits your arrival as you pull into the driveway!
