It’s hard to be bored when in Key West.  Key West attractions range from museums and national/state parks to the famed “Southernmost Point” and the nightly held “Sunset Celebration” just to name a few.  There is something for everyone to explore and enjoy in Key West!

September 24 –FREE admissions day

September 24th is National Public Lands Day, which means free admissions to over 100 national parks. Key West locals and tourist can visit Dry Tortugas National Park and the entrance fee to the park will be waived. For more information please visit the National Park Service

The Smithsonian Magazine is presenting its 7th Annual Museum Day. Both the Custom House Museum and the Key West Lighthouse and Keeper’s Quarters Museum will participate. Immerse yourself in history for free. For more information please visit Smithsonian Magazine

October 13- SYRCL’S Wild and Scenic Film Festival

The Reef Relief is hosting The Wild and Scenic Film Festival at the Tropic Cinema. The festival films will exemplify Earth’s beauty and challenges to inform and inspire the audience. It will also show how our communities are working to protect the environment. September 15 – 18, 2011 – 39th Annual Key West Poker Run

Poker Run 2011 kicks off tomorrow.  Bikers will take the scenic trek from Miami to Key West. Along the way they will stop at different locations drawing cards that will hopefully be a winning poker hand. After the ride from Miami, revelers will enjoy a fun-filled weekend. Eight blocks of the famous Duval Street will be closed off for a big biker-style party. Bull riding contest, a high heels burlesque bash, and pool parties are just a few of the events that will take place this weekend. September 11— 10 year Anniversary

Sunday will mark the 10 year anniversary of one of the most brutal and most unforgettable
attacks on our nation. On September 11, 2001, 2977 innocent people lost their lives. Mothers, Fathers, Sisters, Brothers, & Best Friends will be forever missed. The ten year anniversary will be memorialized all over the country in most communities. Attending a 9-11 10th anniversary event gives you the opportunity to honor those who were lost. Our Favorite Eateries

Camille’s is a local and tourist favorite. They have one of the best breakfast menus on the island. Camille’s has been around for over 20 years and has turned into one of Key West’s hidden gems. Bridget, our housekeeping manager, loves to unwind at Alonzo’s happy hour. Alonzo’s is a casual restaurant with waterfront dining. They have one of the largest selections of oysters on the island. Bridget says that Alonzo’s has the best food for the best price. For more information visit Alonzo’s

Our Reservation Supervisor Gale and her family love to eat at Sweet Teas. Sweet Teas is fairly new to Key West, but is already becoming a local and tourist favorite. Sweet Tea’s is a southern style restaurant with a salad bar and homemade dishes. Gale says that it is a really nice place with reasonable prices. September 6-11– WomenFest

WomenFest kicks off Tuesday, September 6th. For over 20 years Key West WomenFest has been a destination for women from all over the globe. During the 5 day event there will be a wide range of activities to choose from. One of the events is the kickoff party; it will be held at the Southernmost Hotel’s Pineapple Bar & Pool. Sept 1-5 2011 — 2nd Annual BrewFest Key West

Key West 2nd Annual BrewFest kicks off tomorrow September 1st.  The 5 day event will include lunches, brunches, dinners, parties, Beer, and More Beer. Don’t miss the kick-off party at the Bottlecap Groove Lounge on Thursday starting at 5 p.m. On Friday night, the Green Parrot will have live music and a lot of beer. August 26- 6pm — Fantasy Fest 2011 King and Queen Candidates are Revealed

Tonight the King and Queen candidates of Fantasy Fest 2011 will be revealed at the Southernmost House. Admission is free along with free hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Once the candidates are introduced they will start their 8 week mission. They will host fundraiser brunches, lunches, dinners, and more on the quest of becoming crowned.  The results on which two individuals raised the most money for AIDS help will be revealed and they will be crowned King and Queen at the Coronation Ball on October 21. Our Favorite Eateries!

Key West has so many restaurants that it can get frustrating trying to decide on a place to eat.  Do you want casual or upscale, romantic or laid back? Well, your vacation isn’t supposed to be frustrating, so we would like to share a few of our favorite eateries. Hopefully they will become your favorites too.  

Carole, one of our Reservationists, says that one of her favorite places is Salute. Salute is a restaurant/bar with food to die for. It is located right on the beach which makes it a great family hangout. Carole loves to sit back, relax, and enjoy a glass of wine while she watches her little munchkin play in the sand. When Janel, our Accountant, gets a chance to dine in Key West, she loves to go to Café Sole. Café Sole is a French inspired culinary gem off the beaten path. Tricia, our Property Manager, says that her favorite fine dining restaurant is Louie’s Backyard. Louise’s is one of the most romantic restaurants on the island. Tricia and her husband loves to sit on the balcony where they enjoy the various “small plate” dishes and their favorite sauvignon blanc. August 27– 2nd Annual Summer Jam at the Key West Harbour Yacht Club

It’s time to PARTY at the 2nd Annual Summer Jam, presented by Wesley House Family Services.  Sit back, relax, and sip on a margarita while you listen to the sounds of Howard Livingston and MM 24 perform everyone’s favorites.  Chef Martin Liz will cook up one of the finest pig roast and buffets on the island.
