April 29– 18th Annual Taste of Key West

Taste of Key WestThe 18th Annual Taste of Key West will take place Monday April 29th  along the Truman Waterfront. More than 50 Key West restaurants offer delicious tapas-sized portions along the Truman waterfront. April 19-28th– 31st Annual Conch Republic Independence Celebration

conch republic independenceThe Conch Republic Independence celebration is a ten day event that celebrates Key West’s brief secession from the United States. The celebration started April 19th and will end the 28th. Some of the upcoming events include:
Tuesday April 23rd
Pet Stroll – Benefits Xena Fund, with prizes for children, pet look-a-like, group, and Conch Republic Theme. Register at 5pm, stroll at 6pm. Starts at Mel Fisher Maritime Museum.

Wednesday April 24th
Red Ribbon Bed Race Pole Position Pre-Party – Party with the racers at 2nd most famous pajama party in Key West. 9pm, 4 Charles Street.

Thursday April 25th
World’s Longest Parade – Down Duval Street from the Atlantic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico at Schooner Wharf Bar. 8pm. After parade party at Schooner Wharf begins at 9pm.

Friday April 26th
Bloody Battle in the Key West Harbor – Viewable only from the Key West Harbor (try the Sunset Pier at the Ocean Key House), vessels toss stale Cuban bread at Coast Guard vessels and each other re-enacting the “secession” of Key West from the United States. (boat Captains who plan on participating must attend the mandatory Captain’s meeting on April 23, 9pm, at the Schooner Wharf Bar, 202 William Street). Battle begins at 7pm. After, at 9pm is the Victory Party at the Schooner Wharf.

Saturday April 27th
29th Annual Bourbon Street Pub Bed Races – Creatively decorated beds, each equipped with wheels, are pushed by contestants in a race down Duval Street. Schedule is as follows: 2pm racers line up and bed inspection, 3pm parade of beds up Duval Street, and 3:30pm racing starts. Call 305-292-0448 to sign your team up for the event. Duval Street, between Fleming Street and Olivia Street.
Pirate’s Ball & Pig Roast - Bottom feeders unite…we can’t let the Upper Crustaceans have all the fun! Pirate Costume competition, prizes, music, food, and always a good time. Schooner Wharf Bar, foot of William Street.

The Lower Keys Relay For Life

relay for lifeThe American Cancer Society invites you to take that step with us by joining the global Relay For Life movement. When you walk to end cancer at a Relay event, it’s your opportunity to not only honor cancer survivors and remember loved ones lost, but also to raise awareness about what we can do to stay well from cancer and raise money to help fuel the world’s largest walk to end cancer. April 6- Cemetery Stroll of the Historic Key West Cemetery

cemeteryJoin knowledgeable guides who will take strollers on an information filled tour of ten sites within the 19-acre grounds. These guided tours will provide interested insights to the history of our city and its people. The event is a collaboration of the City of Key West and the Florida Keys Historic Foundation. The tours begin at 9:30 and 10:00 and are expected to last 90 minutes. A $10.00 donation to the Historic Florida Keys Foundation would be appreciated. Call (305) 294-8503 to register.

Mar 30– 4th Annual Florida Keys Ocean Festival and Craft Show

MOTE4th Annual Florida Keys Ocean Festival and Craft Show is presented by Mote Marine Laboratory. It is a family-friendly event that celebrates the Florida Keys’ eco-system with exhibits and demonstrations. Some of the highlights include kids’ activities, a fishing seminar for kids, live entertainment, arts and crafts, food vendors, and more.  The event takes place at the Florida Keys Eco-Discovery Center, located on Key West’s Truman Waterfront at the end of Southard Street from 11am until 6pm. Mar 23-24- NAS Key West Air Show

NAS Air ShowThe U.S. Navy flight demonstration team Blue Angels and other military and civilian aerial performances will fill the skies of the Florida Keys on Saturday and Sunday, March 23 and 24, 2013, at a Naval Air Station Key West air show. Admission will be free. In addition to the Blue Angels, the air station intends to invite aerial demonstrations by military and civilian performers, and static military and vintage aircraft.
