In addition to the many celebrations and festivals that take place on our island, Key West is loaded with great attractions, restaurants, and things to do that are here all year round! With so many to choose from, we’ve put together a few of our feverous fall favorites perfect for this time of year. We hope you get a chance to see them all!
One of the most popular things to do in Key West is to snap a photo with the colorful buoy marking the Southernmost Point of the United States. Sitting at the intersection of Whitehead and South Streets, the striped buoy is only around 90 miles north of Cuba and a huge attraction for locals and vacationers alike. Gather up your friends, grab a camera, and go check it out! It’s FREE, and while lines tend to form they typically move quickly. While you wait you can enjoy an amazing view (also perfect for picture snapping), chat with fellow visitors, or check out the surrounding sights such as a plaque dedicated to Cubans who have lost their lives trying to reach America. It’s a great way to enjoy a Key West tradition, learn a little history, and take home a unique memento!
Nancy Forrester has rescued abused & orphaned parrots for 25 years and turned her passion into one of the top attractions in Key West. Nancy Forrester’s Secret Garden, the last undeveloped wooded acre of open land in the heart of Old Town, is full of lush shade palms, exotic endangered plants, & of course many beautiful rescued birds. From 10-11am daily Nancy offers “Parrot 101”, an up close and personal chance to interact with her feathered friends. Guests can take pictures, hold various birds, and ask as many questions as they want! Self-guided educational tours are available daily from 11am-3pm & visitors are encouraged to help entertain the highly social birds. Bring a picnic lunch, play musical instruments, paint, write, sing, or dance — they LOVE music played on smart phones!

Fort Zachar Taylor Beach is located at the very southwestern tip of the island in the Fort Zachary Taylor State Park and is considered one of the best beaches in Key West. Typically more quiet, this pristine island spot features large palm-shaded picnic areas complete with charcoal grills; a gift store and small restaurant (Cayo Hueso); a rocky stretch on the west shoreline great for fishing; & some of the best snorkeling spots around! A rental hut offers various beach equipment including chairs, floats, and snorkel gear & the beach has a nice restroom & changing facility with showers. Visitors can also enjoy narrated tours of Fort Taylor, the fortress that served as headquarters for the U.S. Navy’s East Gulf Coast blockade squadron during the Civil War, and still houses cannons and other war construction!
